"love airplane mode"
So! I'm off again.
This feeling is a little strange to me now since my last few times leaving Newfoundland were with a set plan. When I left in October of 2016, I knew I was going to meet with my parents in Europe followed by joining TruTours in Thailand and Vietnam. When I left in February of 2017, I knew I was going to soon move into an apartment in Korea and settle into a daily routine quite quickly. This time though, I have a return flight 30 days from now an only 3 nights booked in a hostel in Mexico city.
What's in store? What will I do, where will I go, who will I meet, what will I see? I've got my backpack on again but this time it's much smaller and filled with summer clothes!
Here are a few things I hope I get to accomplish over the next 30 days:
Mexico City- make the most of being in this extremely famous foodie city. In recent years bloggers have written about the amazing world-class restaurants, cafes, and bakeries that can be found in Mexico City. This isn't great news for my body which has managed to miraculously shed a few pounds since moving home from Korea, but there's no chance I'm missing out on local cuisine, especially since it's Mexican food. DUH. Oh god. So excited for the food.
Ruins- this country is sprinkled with Mayan ruins and though I don't plan on heading to Tulum or Palanque (where they seem to be most famous), I will seek out other locations along my path in order to take in the sights of some other magnificent remains.
Beach- I don't do well with constant heat in a big city.. so perhaps that's why I've only got 3 nights booked in Mexico City despite it's raving reviews. I was to spend at least 2 weeks of the next month hanging out in some beachside city (or town) where I can live in my bathing suit, ride a bicycle around town, eat hippie smoothie bowls, and drink cheap Coronas on the beach.
I want to learn how to surf, too. (Atleast try for a couple days since I've heard from my brother that it's insanely hard..) I'm going to try my best to put the "cheap" backpacker mindset away for a while and get a surf lesson or two. It's something I've always wanted to try out!
Though my days may not be jam-packed with sight-seeing or wild excursions, I think every day will be a complete adventure. I'm so excited that it doesn't quite feel real just yet, even though I'm writing this from an airplane somewhere over Quebec. I'm going to do my absolute best to stay safe, while also trying my absolute best to have the trip of a lifetime (again 🤗). I hope you'll check in here from time to time so I can share some of what I expect will be a beautiful month in Mexico.
안녕!
